Dear Baby and Parents

Have you ever wondered what your baby is learning from different media sources? Here at the Georgetown Early Learning Project we are currently looking at how babies acquire and retain information from television, books, or media screens.

We are looking for 6- to 24-month-olds and their parents to participate a new study. In this study we will:
• Come to your home for 1 or 2 visits on consecutive days lasting 15-30 minutes each.
o We come to you because home is where babies are at their best!
o We are available to come anytime- early morning, in the evening, or even weekends!
• Show your child a demonstration (either on TV, live, or through a book) with one of our many fun toys.
• Return on the second day to see if they remember the demonstration when they are given a chance to play with the toy.

Your infant’s participation in this study is totally voluntary and confidential. All procedures have been approved by the Georgetown University Institutional Review Board. Your baby will receive an official Certificate of Appreciation from Georgetown. We also periodically post updates on our studies on our project website, www.elp.georgetown.edu.

If you are interested in participating or would like further information, please call us at (202-687-6988), email us at earlylearning@georgetown.edu, or look us up on the web at www.elp.georgetown.edu . We will answer your questions, and hopefully arrange a visit! If this letter has reached you in error, however, we apologize in advance. We hope to be hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Barr, Ph.D.
